Orange County Compost-a-Thon is taking place August 21st to September 18th, 2021. During this time you can win prizes by collecting your food waste and dropping it off at a collection site, or composting it at home.
In addition, there are three Compost-a-Thon events being held at Orange County farmers’ markets.
Composting your food waste is a way to keep it out of the landfills, and, instead, enabling it to improve the soil that we depend upon.
Participate in Compost-a-Thon
It’s easy to participate in Compost-a-Thon.
Collect
Separate your food waste from non-compostable materials. Remove stickers, rubber bands and plastic wraps. Have a compost bin handy in your kitchen to collect food waste.
A food waste compost bin can be as simple as an old coffee can, with a lid. But you might also like a stainless steel compost bin like this one, because it has a charcoal filter that will keep smells from escaping.
Learn about what to compost to avoid contamination of your food scraps.
Log
Fill out this form to report your composting efforts. Your efforts will be counted in the community tally and you might be eligible for a prize.
