
Emancipation Day, a long-standing North Carolina Tradition, is a commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation. Traditionally this was celebrated on January 1st, and included a parade and program, followed by singing, poetry reading, and speeches by both black and white leaders.
The City of Raleigh Museum, 220 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh, North Carolina, is hosting an Emancipation Day event.
Emancipation Day Breakfast

On Saturday, January 3, 2026, the museum is hosting an Emancipation Day Breakfast from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. The cost of the breakfast and lecture is $20. Purchase tickets here.
Enjoy a hot breakfast and a lecture by Dr. Antwain K. Hunter, who will discuss the realities of African Americans after 1865.
