Emancipation Day, a long-standing North Carolina tradition, is a commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation. Historically, this was celebrated on January 1st, and included a parade and program, followed by singing, poetry reading, and speeches by both black and white leaders.
Friends of the City of Raleigh Museum and the City of Raleigh are presenting several events from January 2 to 7, 2024, to mark Emancipation Day. Please follow the link for each event for details.
