Here is the complete information on the event, as well as some information about Diwali, from VAE Raleigh’s website:
We are excited to celebrate Diwali 2020! VAE Raleigh, sponsored by Dix Park Conservancy, has created a safe and inviting space for families and groups of friends to create mandala art in Dix Park as short term public art in celebration of Diwali.
Mandalas represent how everything in the universe is connected, a lovely way to honor unity in our community.
The celebration of Diwali can be traced back to ancient India. There are different legends associated with Diwali that vary from region to region in India. It is one of the oldest and widest celebrated festivals, and today, the Diwali celebration continues to be a significant cultural event.
Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights. It is a time to celebrate the victory of good over evil, light over darkness, hope over despair. It is a time when the community gathers to rejoice, and we’ll do that this year through art.
Join us to create mandala chalk art to celebrate Diwali, a first at Dix Park.
Registration to participate in this event is free! Spaces are limited, so please reserve your spot as soon as possible.
The artworks will remain on view until dusk on Sunday, November 8th.
We encourage the public to view these works in celebration of the culturally significant holiday.
Remember to maintain six feet apart to socially distance and always wear a mask. Please read all of the details so that we can ensure everyone has a successful and enjoyable experience that prioritizes our community’s health.
