July 20th, 2019, marks the 50th anniversary of the first lunar landing. Celebrate at special events in Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill.
There are several ways to celebrate Apollo 11 and the moon landing in the Triangle, including festivals, a look behind the scenes in an astrophysics lab, a special planetarium show, stepping inside a replica of Neil Armstrong’s space suite, free Moonberry Pancakes, Moon Pies, meeting with NASA ambassadors and more.
Make sure to follow all the links to get the necessary details on the events, most of which are free to attend.

Also, scroll down for my favorite song about Apollo 11, which is not about Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin.

Following the show, there will be a special event. UNC graduate Anthony Mitchell acquired, through a family estate auction, a Morehead Planetarium Medial given to Neil Armstrong. He is loaning this commemorative coin to the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center. Following the planetarium show, there will be an event honoring the loan. If you can’t make it to the planetarium show on Friday, catch it at a different time this summer. Here’s the calendar.
