Morehead Planetarium & Science Center, 250 E Franklin Center, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, might be best known for its planetarium shows, but it offers much more.
Exhibits include:
- The Hidden Life of Stars — This original, interactive exhibit invites visitors to explore the dramatic life cycles of stars with the Young Worlds Lab at UNC-Chapel Hill. Hands-on experiences and immersive storytelling share how, where, and why astronomers study stars and what celestial objects tell us about the origins of our solar system…and ourselves
- Ivan R. King Gateway Gallery — Gateway Gallery spotlights the impact of UNC-Chapel Hill and Morehead on astronomy, America’s race to the Moon, and important scientific breakthroughs over time
- Breakthrough Hub — Dynamic, hands-on exhibits explore a variety of research to tell the stories of scientists, their work, and how they impact our lives
- To the Moon and Back — life-sized exhibit commemorating the historic moment and the impact of our race to space
- Try Me! — hands-on activities designed for visitors to learn by doing
- Launch Lab — Learn by building and discovering in the STEM tinkerspace
Discounted Fridays
On every Friday in April, 2026, (except for the spring holiday, April 3) Morehead is offering $5 general admission tickets. (Not the planetarium shows.) Dates are April 10, 17 and 24, 2026.
Hours are 2:30 to 6 p.m.
These tickets grant you access to hands-on STEM activities in the Launch Lab, captivating science demos on the Science Stage, and interactive exhibits throughout the building, including the latest exhibition, Hidden Lives of Stars.
General admission tickets are only available in person. Visit the front desk to get started.
