Fortnight Brewing Company, at 1006 SW Maynard Rd, Cary, brings the taste of English beers to North Carolina. Some of the partners are from England, and, together with the North Carolina natives who also share ownership, they offer English Ale, Porter and ESB use only English grown ingredients and yeast. They also offer a Blonde Ale, Coffee Amber and an IPA that is a fusion of English and American IPA styles.
They offer free brewery tours Fridays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays and 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes.
You’re welcome to bring your own food to the brewery, and there’s also a rotation of food trucks.

BEER & BATTLES AT FORTNIGHT: VIKINGS and KNIGHTS
Geek Fit Network presents Beer & Battles at Fortnight Brewing Company. Learn historic European sword fighting in the backdrop of one of the triangles most award winning breweries. Classes are taught by The Sword Conservatory and are open to men, women and children ages 13 and over. Adult ticket price includes your choice of one Fortnight’s specialty beers. All skill levels are welcome to participate. Stick around after the class for an epic armored combat demonstration, and food trucks.
VIKING SHIELD COMBAT CLASS: 9:30 AM – 10:30 AM
You will learn the fundamentals of medieval swordsmanship, shield work, and shield formations; practice them in drills; and then put them into practice by sparring! Expect to get a good workout and to experience a little bit of what it was like to fight in the front rank of a Viking-era shield wall.
Drills will be done with wooden shields and plastic weapons. Sparring will be done with fencing masks, professional grade foam safety swords, and foam shields.
MEDIEVAL SWORD FIGHTING : 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Learn to fight like a knight in a safe, supportive, and fun atmosphere!
You will learn the fundamentals of medieval swordsmanship, practice them in drills, and then put them into practice by sparring! Expect to get a good workout and to learn some of the secrets of medieval fight masters such as Hans Talhoffer, George Silver, and Fiore dei Liberi.
ARMORED SWORD DEMO: following classes
Sip on a Pendragon, or an Off With Her Red while feasting your eyes on historical martial arts in action. Be amazed during a armored combat demonstration by the Sword Conservatory. TSC is a 501(c)(3) educational non-profit organization dedicated to researching and teaching sword fighting, from ancient to 19th century styles, as well as modern sport fencing and stage combat. EQUIPMENT & SAFETY:
All necessary equipment (swords and masks) will be provided. Wear comfortable athletic clothing. Light gloves which cover the whole hand and fingers are recommended, such as gardening gloves, or light welding gloves. Sparring will be done with fencing masks and professional grade foam and plastic safety swords.
WAIVER & LIABILITY: ADULT AND MINOR FORMS REQUIRED
Participants must be at least 13 years of age. All minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A separate waiver must be signed with The Sword Conservatory, Inc for each participant.
