World-renowned Mexican artists Jorge Marín’s exhibition Wings of the City is at Dorothea Dix Park through March 22nd, 2021. The exhibit is a collection of nine bronze sculptures. They are larger-than-live figures, many winged.
Wings of the City Community Picnic will be a celebration of the exhibit’s time in Raleigh. It will take place Saturday, March 12th, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Harvey Hill and the Chapel Event Center.
The Community Picnic will be a celebration of Mexican culture and community, as well as the art. This is a free event.
The event will feature:
- Live music
- Lawn games
- Vendors
- Art inside Chapel Event Center, inspired by Wings of the City
You can also bring your own picnic lunch. Events will be both inside and outside

Art
VAE Raleigh and Dix Park Conservancy have created an interactive experience, “Wings of the City: Make Your Mark.” There will be canvases at the Community Picnic (and also at 120 Wilmington Street from March 4th to 30th.) Add to paintings inspired by Wings. The paintings will be displayed at the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh.
