Devon Flaherty is an old-time banjoist and songster based in Carrboro, NC. Drawn to the unique sound of the banjo at a young age, Devon found himself seeking to emulate the powerful and mystifying music of banjoists from southern Appalachia. A long-time collector of 78rpm records, he has found inspiration through commercial old-time music recordings of the pre-WWII era, in addition to field recordings made throughout the 20th century. Known for idiosyncratic clawhammer, two and three-finger banjo styles, plus a distinctive baritone voice, Devon strives to preserve and present the music of the past, with respect to forebearers of the tradition, while creating something fresh, moving and entertaining for modern listeners.
