Carolina Theatre of Durham, at 309 W Morgan Street, Durham, North Carolina, is hosting a FREE screening of Steel Magnolias, in tribute to Dolly Parton.
It will take place Thursday, September 10, 2026, at 7 p.m.
No advance tickets will be distributed. Guests can pick up tickets on the day of the show, starting at 6 p.m.
Set in the heart of Chinquapin Parish, Louisiana, Steel Magnolias brings you into the lively haven of Truvy Jones’s beauty parlor—a home-away-from-home where hair gets teased, town gossip flows, and an unbreakable circle of women share life’s sweetest triumphs and deepest heartbreaks. At the center of it all is Truvy (played with signature warmth, radiant charm, and quick wit by Dolly Parton), whose salon serves as the emotional anchor for her tight-knit community.
Alongside her eccentric new assistant Annelle (Daryl Hannah), Truvy welcomes a powerhouse ensemble: fiercely loving mother M’Lynn (Sally Field), her spirited, diabetic daughter Shelby (Julia Roberts), the sharp-tongued former mayor’s widow Clairee (Olympia Dukakis), and the town’s delightfully curmudgeonly neighborhood scold, Ouiser (Shirley MacLaine).
