Historic Yates Mill County Park, at 6420 Lake Wheeler Road in Raleigh, is a 174-acre wildlife refuge and an environmental research center.
The centerpiece is the Historic Yates Mill, which is the last operable water-powered gristmill in Wake County. The mill is on the National Register of Historic Places and was restored to working order in 2005.

Yates Mill is hosting Santa on Saturday, December 6, 2025. Step inside the historic gristmill to meet Santa. Volunteers will be on hand to take pictures of you and Santa, using your phone or camera, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and from 1 to 4 p.m.
This event was announced on Facebook.
This is a FREE event, presented by Yates Mill Associates.
Due to limited space, entry to the mill will be staggered, offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Stop by the park’s visitor center when you arrive so you can sign up for an available spot.
While at the park, you can also make holiday crafts, play historic games, buy crafts from YMA’s craft sale, and more.
This is a free event, but donations are accepted, to help with its mission of preserving and operating the historic mill.
