North Carolina now allows you to apply online to register to vote. If you know someone who is new to the state, who is just turning 18, or just hasn’t registered to vote yet, please share this information. There are some cases where people might think they are not eligible to vote, but are.
You can also update your address or change your party affiliation online.
Voter registration applications must be submitted at least 25 days before an election, although you may still register to vote in person using same-day registration in your county during the early voting period.
If you’re not sure if you’re registered, you can look up any North Carolina voter here.
Registering online to vote makes it easier than ever to get started having a say in our government. Here’s how.
Go here and click on the button that says “Go to Voter Registration Application.” The service is offered through NC Department of Transportation.
Then click on the big blue button that says “Continue to myNCDMV Services.”
It’s a little bit confusing, because it seems like you need to pay something or create an account, but you don’t. Click on “Continue as a guest” (as seen below in the tiny blue letters under the buttons.)
Once you do that, click on “Submit a Voter Registration Application.” At this point you can enter your information.
You’ll need your North Carolina Drivers License number, your Social Security Number and your date of birth.
If you don’t have a valid North Carolina Drivers License or DMV-issued ID Card, you will need to download a voter registration application and submit it to the State Board of Elections.
