If you’re interested in planes, or you have kids who might be interested, RDU Observation Park is a great spot to visit.
It’s open from 9 a.m. to sunset every day.
It’s near the Air Traffic Control Tower. You should be able to plug “RDU Observation Park” into your GPS and it’ll take you right to it. It’s at the intersection of West International Drive and Business Street, Morrisville, NC.
It’s right at RDU Airport, but it feels like miles away from the bustle of the terminals. The highlight of the Observation Park is an elevated platform where you can watch planes take off. You get a great view of the 10,000-foot runway. There are also speakers so that you can listen to the communication between the pilots and the tower.
The Observation Park also features educational placards and a picnic area.
There’s a small grassy area with a piece of playground equipment. There’s even a little runway for kids to run up and down.
RDU Observation Park offers free admission, free parking, and restrooms.
