The Produce Project is a 501c(3) nonprofit that buys fresh produce in bulk and distributes it in shares to consumers for $18 per share, which is about a third of the retail cost.
Each share contains at least 13 different items, a mix of fruits and vegetables. The produce is a combination of organic and traditional produce. Produce Project buys locally grown items when possible, but also includes imported items.
The focus is on providing shares with varied offerings all year. Below you’ll see an example of what’s included in a share.
You can order a single share, or you can sign up for a subscription, and pick up once a week or once every other week. You can choose to pay $30 instead of $18, for a share for yourself and one for a family in need.
Pick up your share at one of the locations, listed below. The shares are big. If it’s more than you need, or there are items you know you won’t use, just leave the excess. At the end of every produce day, the Produce Project donates what’s left over to non-profit partners, who then give them to families in need in North Carolina.
It’s important to note that the $18 shares are not just for families in need. They are for everyone, and the more people who buy the shares, the more produce the organization can donate to families with food insecurity. In November of 2022, The Produce Project donated over 4,300 pounds of produce to the community.
Order a share or subscribe for a weekly or every other weekly share. When you order you’ll specify where you’d like pick up your share.
