Orange County will honor the sacrifices of America’s servicemen and women during the annual Orange County Veterans Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 8:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial Site, 2501 Homestead Drive, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
The community is invited to attend this solemn tribute to those who gave their lives in service to our country. The program will include a posting of colors by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office Color Guard, under the direction of Investigator Pat Gilchrist, and an invocation by Reverend Dr. George I. Allison.

Town of Chapel Hill Mayor Jessica Anderson will welcome attendees, followed by remarks and acknowledgments from Carrboro Mayor Barbara Foushee and NC Representative Renée A. Price, who will offer a special recognition of Gold Star families.
The keynote Memorial Day address will be delivered by Brigadier General Arnold Gordon-Bray, United States Army, Retired, a distinguished leader and veteran. Other participants include Lt. Col. David Terrell, Captain Bruce Runberg, Judge Hathaway Pendergrass, and James I. Merritt. The ceremonial laying of the wreath will be conducted by Colonel David Chandler and Brigadier General Gordon-Bray.
Taps will be performed by Edward H. Gill of American Legion Post 6.
Facility setup and refreshments will be provided by Orange County. The event is free and open to the public.
