Oberlin Village is the only known surviving freedman’s village in North Carolina that grew out of a Free Black settlement during Reconstruction.
The 5K will start at 8 a.m.
In addition there will be a Kids Dash at 9 a.m. for kids ages 8 and under. They’ll receive a medal for participating.
5K Registration is $50-$45, depending on when you register.
Registration for the Kids Dash is $5.
From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., there will be a Pop-Up Museum about Oberlin Village. You don’t have to participate in the 5K to visit the Pop-Up Museum, and it’s free to visit.
The theme for the Pop-Up Museum is “Then, Now, Next.” Participants in the Pop-Up are PreservationNC, Latta House Foundation, the City of Raleigh (highlighting plans for the future Latta Historic Park), The City of Raleigh Museum, the Oberlin Village Library, and Friends of Oberlin Village.
