On Sunday, February 4, 2024, The Museum of Life + Science, 433 W Murray Avenue, Durham, North Carolina, is hosting an annual event, Black Excellence in Science, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The program is included with the price of admission. February 4 is one of the Durham Community Days, so residents of Durham are admitted for free.
Admission for non-Durham residents:
- General admission: $23
- Seniors: $21
- Military (active or retired, with ID): $21
- Children (3-12): $18
- Children (2 and under): Free
Black Excellence in Science celebrates Black scientists and STEM professionals. There will be hands-on science activities, a chance to chat with experts, and connect with community partners.
Black Excellence in Science
- Hands-on science activities with local scientists, from neurobiology to electrical engineering, from 10 am – noon
- Space to try out DCL’s new Techies4Tomorrow game all day!
- A STEAM-infused Lab experience with Purpose Learning Lab (and a chance to check out some of their art and science projects)!
- Demonstrations from Ava, The S.T.E.M Princess, creator of Team Genius Squad, in our Lab space at 10 am and 1 pm
- Science demos and activities, led by BOOST Scholars, from 12 pm – 1 pm!
- A science extravaganza in our MMR space, starting with a dance routine from Purpose Learning Lab at 1:30 pm, and culminating in a chance to meet and chat with the incredible scientists joining us for the event all at once.

- Program Director of Information Science at NCCU, Dr. Siobahn Grady
- Our very own Insectarium Manager, Leon Bradford!
- Immunologist and cell biologist Dr. Christine Daniels
- Electrical engineer with hands-on circuitry activities, Kendra Settles
