Looking for New Year’s Eve fireworks close to the Triangle? And maybe an earlier bedtime? And maybe a Pickle Drop? And free pickles? Read on.
Mt. Olive Pickle Company is holding its 22nd annual New Year’s Eve Pickle Drop on Saturday, December 31st, 2022.
This is an early New Year’s Eve event, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. It takes place in front of the University of Mount Olive’s Kornegay Arena, 634 Henderson Street, Mount Olive, North Carolina. It’s free to attend. Bring your own chair if you’d like one.

Mount Olive is just over a one-hour drive to the southeast of Raleigh.
The festivities include live music by Wild Ride, a Selma-based band that plays country, rock and pop music. Food trucks will also be on hand.
Video screens will count down the (almost) final hours of 2022.
There will be free pickles, courtesy of Mt. Olive Pickle.
Also, if you donate canned food or money to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, you’ll receive a ticket for door prize drawing. The grand prize is a pickle like the one that is dropped, minus the lights.
At 7 p.m., assisted by the Mount Olive Volunteer Fire Department, the giant glowing New Year’s Eve Pickle will descend into a giant pickle jar.
Directly after the pickle drop, there will be a fireworks show.
You can park anywhere on the campus of University of Mount Olive, and handicapped accessible parking will be available.
Can’t make it to the Pickle Drop? No worries! It will be live streamed as well. You’ll find the livestream link here.
