Liberty Arts is hosting a Beach Party in January!
On Friday, January 17, 2025, during Third Friday durham, the beach will come to Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street, Durham, North Carolina, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Experience a night of heat, sand, surf rock and art at Liberty Arts Foundry at George Watts Arts Pavilion at the park.
Beach vibe beverages will be available at Glass Jug, 545 Foster Street, and you can enjoy them under heat lamps on the taproom’s front porch, which overlooks the porch. Locals Seafood food truck will be on site.
This is a free event, but art workshops that incorporate sand will be available, including:
- Mini Terrarium Workshop: Create mini beach scenes with colored sand topped with a wee succulent in a recycled jar or Glass Jug beer glass. $30 per jar. Reservation required.
- Scratch Block Workshop: Carve designs into blocks of resin-bonded sand. An hour later, watch your creation become a work of art during an aluminum pour in the Liberty Arts Foundry across the street from The Glass Jug. $100 per block. Reservation required.
- Sand Casting Workshop: Learn to make a small object using Delft Clay and pewter and walk away with a finished piece! $150 plus $25 materials fee. Reservation required.
Free to enjoy:
- Live vintage instrumental music by Thee Swelltones
- Artist Talkback with pourmasters Mike Waller and Tripp Jarvis and glassblowing instructor Leigh Hayes
- Watch artists pour molten aluminum in the Foundry
- Learn how common, ubiquitous sand is the force behind industrial arts as glassblowing and metalwork
