With the retirement of Sir Walter Raleigh at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science, and the death of Queen Charlotte at Discovery Place Nature Museum in Charlotte, Snerd, at White Deer Park in Garner, is North Carolina’s only official Groundhog Day groundhog.
The pressure’s on, Snerd!
On Thursday, February 2nd, 2023, White Deer Park, 2400 Aversboro Road, Garner, North Carolina, is hosting a Groundhog Day celebration from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
The highlight will be when Snerd makes his prediction. If he doesn’t see his shadow, we’re in for six more weeks of winter. If he does see his shadow, break out the flip flops!
The free event also features live animals, educational activities, a storytime, Smokey Bear and crafts.
Snerd will deliver his prediction to the mayor at noon.
This is a free event.
The North Carolina Museum of Natural Science is also hosting a Groundhog Day Celebration on February 2nd, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with lots of groundhog and weather related fun, but no working groundhog.
