If you can avoid it, don’t go to a grocery store right now. Delivery or curbside pickup is the safer choice. Here is a side-by-side comparison of several grocery delivery services.
The problem is that, for some of the stores, time slots for delivery are very limited. In addition, items are often out of stock.
With that in mind, here are a few other places to order groceries from that you might not have considered. None of these are full-service grocery stores, so you’re not going to find hundreds of items to choose from, or lots of choices for brands. But they might just have what you need!

Carrboro United
Order from a variety of restaurants, farms and breweries, and pickup from one place in Downtown Carrboro. You can buy meals for the whole family from a number of restaurants, or buy eggs, meat produce, and other items from local farms. The items vary from week to week. There are several hub days a week. East Durham Bake Shop
East Durham Bake Shop, at 406 South Driver Street, Durham, is offering some pantry items, like flour, yeast, sugar, vinegar, mustard, toilet paper, apples, potatoes, pasta and more. You can see their prices here. You can also order their usual, excellent fare, including biscuits, bagels, sandwiches and salads. Call ahead for in-store pickup and they’ll have it all ready for you. Elodie Farms
Elodie Farms offers goat cheese, eggs, produce, pasture-raised beef and more. Pickup is at West End Wine Bar, 601 W Main Street, Durham. Delivery is also available, with a $5 delivery fee, and a $14 order minimum.
Saltgrass Market
Saltgrass Steakhouse, at 6601 Knightdale Blvd, Knightdale, has opened a market, selling steak, produce, bacon, chicken, shrimp, eggs, butter, flour, and more. You can see their prices here. South Wind Produce

Strong Arm Baking
Strong Arm Baking is gearing up to offer home delivery to Durham, Hillsborough, Wake Forest and Oxford. Besides their breads and pastries, they sell fresh pastured eggs, Black and White’s coffee, cheese, and fresh produce boxes. Minimum order is $20, and there’s a $7 delivery cost. Sign up for their emails from their website so you’ll be the first to know when the ordering form goes up each week.
Locals Oyster Bar
Locals Oyster Bar, at Transfer Co. Food Hall, 500 E Davie Street, Raleigh, sells not only its prepared seafood, but also take and bake items (with cooking instructions), raw seafood, including oysters, monkfish, flounder, shrimp and more, and pantry items, like eggs, butter, sugar, garlic, onions and lemons. Oberweis Dairy

Panera Grocery
Panera Bread is now delivering some groceries from participating cafes. Items include bread, milk, yogurt, cream cheese, fruit, and vegetables. Pickup also available.
Meal Prep Services
Services like Blue Apron and Home Chef will package up and ship all the components of a meal, which you will then cook yourself. If you are new to one of these services, make sure to check Groupon to see if there’s an introductory deal.
Edible Arrangements
Edible Arrangements is best known for chocolate covered fruit, but you can actually order fruit and vegetables from them as well. They offer free next day delivery. You can also pick up at one of their stores.
