The City of Raleigh is distributing free weather radios to the community. NOAA weather radios distribute continuous updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
Most run on battery power, making them useful during power outages. Weather alert radios broadcast from several VHF frequencies. No cell towers are required. If you can’t charge your cell phone, or if cellular service is disrupted, you can still receive critical emergency information.
The City of Raleigh is just starting the roll-out and has two events planned where you can pick up a weather radio.
