Jordan Lake, at 2060 Jordan Dam Road, Moncure, North Carolina, is celebrating its population of Bald Eagles with its second annual EagleFest in January, 2026. There will be events from January 19 to 24, 2026. We’re listing a couple of them below, but follow the Jordan Lake website and Jordan Lake Facebook page for more announcements.
Jordan Lake is home to at least 25 nesting pairs of bald eagles. In the winter, dozens of migratory eagles congregate below the dam- an amazing sight to see!
These events are being held at the Jordan Tailrace, just below the dam. The address is 2060 Jordan Dam Road, Moncure, North Carolina.
EagleFest Photography Workshop
EagleFest Photography Workshop
Monday, January 19, 2026
2 to 3:30 p.m.
Free, but registration is required (follow above link)
Help kick off Jordan Lake’s 2nd Annual EagleFest with a wildlife photography workshop led by NC State Parks staff photographer Craig Marimpietri.
Whether you’re an advanced photographer or a beginner hobbyist, come learn how to optimize your camera’s settings to get the best wildlife photos possible. This workshop will include ~15-30 minutes of group education followed by a short hike with cameras in hand to see what’s out there. Craig will be available throughout the hike, assisting with technical questions as they arise, encouraging creative compositions, and providing feedback on images.
The workshop is free to attend, but registration is required. Outside of that, all that is asked is that you bring your camera of choice plus a curiosity and respect for the surrounding landscape and wildlife.
Please remember to wear comfortable hiking shoes and dress for colder weather!
