The Durham Art Guild will host Lotería: A Photographic Study of Latino Contributions to Our Community from September 6 to October 5, 2025, at the Golden Belt Gallery, Suite 9-157A, 800 Taylor St., Durham, North Carolina.
Just in time for National Hispanic Heritage Month, this vibrant exhibit by local photographer Anthony Garza reimagines traditional lotería cards through portraits and stories of Latino community members—including doctors, carpenters, authors, homemakers, and musicians—whose work and lives enrich North Carolina.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
Garza’s inspiration is deeply personal:
“As a child, I would visit cousins in South Texas and we would spend hours playing lotería. The colors, characters, and laughter surrounded the table. I didn’t know it then, but those images shaped the way I see the world—a gift that still guides my photography today.”
