North Carolina has gone troll crazy! Seven trolls by Danish artist Thomas Dambo have come to North Carolina and “troll hunters” are going to see all of them.
The seven trolls in North Carolina:
- Five are in Dorothea Dox Park in Raleigh
- One Dambo Troll is in High Point
- One Dambo Troll is in Charlotte
Each of these trolls has its own personality and story. Each also has a necklace with a unique symbol on it. Take note of the symbols, because when you find all the symbols you can enter them into a website and learn where the “Grandmother Tree” is in North Carolina.
In the lore of the Dambo Trolls, the Grandmother Tree is protected by all the other trolls in North Carolina. Read on for details about how to find the Grandmother Tree, as well as how to visit all the Dambo Trolls in Raleigh, as well as in Charlotte and High Point.
Make sure to use this parking map for Dix Park.
In addition to the “permanent” trolls, a temporary exhibit of 12 (smaller) trolls are at the North Carolina Arboretum in Asheville from November 15, 2025, to February 17, 2026.
Visiting the Trolls in Dix Park

The five trolls in Dix Park are pretty easy to find. The above map will help.
Daddy Bird Eye

Daddy Bird Eye is near Gipson Play Plaza. There are multiple parking lots near Gipson Play Plaza, which you can find on this map.
He’s out in plain sight, but there’s not a path to him. You’ll need to walk up a slope to get to him. He’s watching over the Raleigh skyline from his perch.

Dix

For the remaining four trolls, you can park at the Dog Park parking lot. Dix is the baby and he’s holding onto a tail. If you follow the tail through the woods you’ll get to his mother, Mother Strong Tail.

Mother Strong Tail

If you just follow the tail (which is very long!) you’ll get to Mother Strong Tail. This tail is the only part of the trolls that you’re permitted to climb on.
She’s drifting off to sleep, because taking care of an active baby is exhausting, but she is keeping one eye open.

Dax

From the same parking lot, but in the other direction, you can find Dax, who is on the move, playing hide and go seek with Dux.
Dux

Dux is close by Dax, covering his eyes and counting as Dax hides.
Accessibility
None of the trolls have wheelchair accessibility. However, Dax, Dix, and Dux would be the easiest of the five to reach, because you don’t have to climb a hill or go through the woods.
Finding Grandmother Tree
Once you’ve visited all seven trolls in North Carolina, go to trollmap.com and navigate to North Carolina. Move around and zoom in and you should find a poem, and above the poem is a place to select the seven symbols (one from the necklace of each troll.) You can enter them in any order.
When you’ve entered the right symbols, you’ll earn where the Grandmother Tree is.
We won’t tell you where it is, but we can tell you that it’s only 10 miles from the center of Raleigh.
The Other Trolls in North Carolina
Of course you can’t find the Grandmother Tree until you find all the trolls in North Carolina, not just the ones in Raleigh.
Big Pete with the Big Feet in Charlotte

Big Pete is the largest of all the North Carolina trolls, at 65 feet long. His feet are more than 7 feet tall. Big Pete is in the River District, in the southwest of Charlotte. The River District is under construction, so be careful.
The intersection of River District Drive and Crescent River Road is a good thing to put into your GPS. If your navigation is not finding those streets yet, since the roads are new, try Dixie River Road and West Blvd.
Little Sally in High Point

To find Little Sally, navigate to 726 W. Grimes Avenue, High Point, North Carolina. You’ll need to park on the street before you get to that spot. Plan to park near Grimes Avenue and Oak Street. Then continue walking down Grimes Street. There’s a path on the right that will take you to the troll.
This troll is particularly charming. She’s holding onto a tree and her hair is made of table and chair legs, in honor of High Point’s furniture fame.
