Titan Arums (Amorphophallus titanum), also known as corpse flowers, are rare plants, native only to the jungles of Sumatra. They are notable because of their size — they can grow to be ten feet tall — and because when they bloom, which they only do every few years, just a couple times in their lifetime, they emit an extremely strong smell. It’s been compared with rotting meat.
You know what that means, right? It’s a major event when one of these plants bloom, and you should go to see and smell it.

Juniper Level Botanic Garden is home to a Titan Arum that’s getting ready to bloom. This plant last bloomed in 2023.
The plant is blooming now (as of July 31, 2025!) The plant has been moved to the hosta sales greenhouse so that the public can visit.
The garden is open for viewing and smelling. No ticket or reservation needed. But don’t delay!
- Thursday, July 31, 2025, until 5 p.m.
- Friday, August 1, 2025, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, August 2, 2025, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Juniper Level Botanic Garden is at 9241 Sauls Road, Raleigh, North Carolina.

When it blooms it will emit the distinctive odor for a day or so.
