The Community Remembrance Coalition – Chatham is a group that has the mission to improve race relations in Chatham County through dialogue with black and white communities, and through sharing a full accounting of even the county’s history, including even a very painful parts of Chatham County’s history — the lynching of six members of the community 100 years ago.
There will be a Black History Celebration on Saturday, September 18th, 2021, the 100th anniversary of the lynching. Please check back soon for more information on this event.

The presentation will be available via Zoom. Interested members of the community may register for this event by registering here. Evette Evans is a local author, poet and weaver of dreams. Her love of storytelling was born as a toddler, listening to her grandmother. That love grew with her mother’s encouragement and belief that stories are the histories of the soul and must be told with “truth and emotion.” She has been regularly featured at schools and universities, organizations, libraries and national festivals.
