Inspired by the fast-moving world of social video and audience-driven storytelling, WUNC Spotlight Series: Make It Scroll invites guests into an interactive live newsroom experience exploring how journalists decide what stories capture attention, and what makes people stop scrolling.
This is a free event on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 12 to 1 p.m., at WUNC Studios, 324 Blackwell Street, Ste. 600, Durham, North Carolina. Please RSVP here.
Attendees will step behind the scenes with WUNC social media manager Josh Sullivan to help shape real story ideas in real time. Through live audio clips, photography, B-roll, and unfinished reporting materials, participants will react to potential headlines, discuss what visuals and voices feel essential, and collaborate on how stories can become compelling short-form videos and digital journalism.
Rather than a lecture, this Spotlight is designed as an open conversation about audience habits, storytelling instincts, and the evolving relationship between journalism and social media. Guests will help “build” a story with Josh’s guidance: weighing what resonates, what feels missing, and how communities themselves shape the stories they see online.
Featuring story concepts ranging from disappearing mall culture in the Triangle to community-driven local reporting, Make It Scroll offers a rare chance to experience how journalism gets crafted before it ever reaches your feed.
This event is part of WUNC’s 50th anniversary celebration, featuring 50 events across North Carolina that bring people together through community, conversation, and storytelling.
