Each year, local organizations and community groups in Raleigh and Durham, North Carolina, plus surrounding areas in the Triangle, sponsor Thanksgiving turkey and food giveaways, to make sure families facing food insecurity or financial hardship can gather together for a traditional meal.
We’re collecting as many of these turkey giveaways and food distribution events as we can find, and listing them here.

Turkey Giveaway by Hot 97.9

Hot 97.9 and partners are giving away turkeys on a first come, first served basis. Hosted by Uzi Trapz and Bernie Oh. The radio station announced this on their Facebook page and on their website.
Parktown Food Hub Turkey Giveaway

There will be at least 30 turkeys available. There is no registration required, but the turkeys will be given out on a first come first serve basis. Cars line up in the parking lot at 5122 Revere Road, near the baseball field.

Wake Forest Police Department Annual Turkey Drive

The Wake Forest Police Department will be giving away more than 1,200 frozen Turkeys on Monday, November 25, 2024. There is no registration required, but it is first come first serve. A drive-thru system will be implemented along portions of South Franklin Street and East Holding Avenue. There is a limit to one turkey per vehicle. For more information, check here.

Durham Rescue Mission’s Annual Thanksgiving Community Dinner

Every year, the Durham Rescue Mission puts on this free Thanksgiving community dinner to feed those in need. Those in attendance will receive a free hot turkey dinner with all the trimmings, as well as hot dogs. In addition, they will also be giving a bag of groceries to every family to take home to cook another meal.
There will be a variety of carnival games with prizes, free clothing items, and special ticket giveaways for larger items such as a Nintendo Switch. All activities for the day are also free! For more information about the event, click here.
