The 4th of July is over, but the summer is not. Here are some of the best summer festivals in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and beyond. July 7th, Pittsboro. Pittsboro Summer Fest includes laser light show, parade, peach pie contest, live music, much more. July 13th, Raleigh. This summer, Dorothea Dix Park is combining Destination Dix and SunFest into one big festival, that includes free ferris wheel rides, free inflatables (and much more)...as well as those magnificent sunflower fields. July 20th, Raleigh. Celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing with a ton of activities, like bungee jumping, hands-on science activities, film screening, discussions and more. And, of course, visit the NC Museum of History's One Giant Leap exhibit. July 20th, Durham. Visit Duke Homestead State Historic Site to celebrate North Carolina food and history, including a BBQ contest, costumed interpreters, crafts, games, a kids' area, and vendors. July 27h, Raleigh. This homegrown tradition includes pine car races, the Kirby Derby Parade, and a soapbox derby. It takes place in Dorothea Dix Park. July 27th, Chapel Hill. Grandpop Bubbles will be there with his bubble wands, poles, basins, and 90 gallons of bubble juice. There will also be a dog show, face painting, and more. August 17th-18th, Durham. Learn about the vegan lifestyle from the presenters and vendors at this annual festival. August 21st, Durham. This festival in Durham Center Park features food vendors, music, face painting, a misting station and more. August 24th, Durham. Celebrate North Carolina's farming culture and history with a hornworm race, live music, a Moon Pie eating contest, a tobacco looping/stringing contest, and more. August 24th and 25th, and every Saturday through September 21st, Pittsboro. Explore serious and whimsical sculptures from more than 80 artists on JimGin Farm in Pittsboro. August 24th and 25th, Cary.
