Geek Fit Raleigh and The Sword Conservatory are bringing together Scottish Broadsword, 18th Century Dueling, and beer at Barrel & Steel, on Saturday, November 16th, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., at Barrel Culture Brewing and Blending, 4913 South Alston Avenue, Durham.
It’s FREE to watch the demo, or you can sign up for one of these classes.
The classes are open to men, women and children, age 13 and over. Adult tickets include your choice of Barrel Culture’s specialty beers, and youth tickets include a non-alcoholic beverage.
All skill levels are welcome to participate.

Youth: $8.75 to $10Put on your best kilt and come learn the fundamentals of the Highland Broadsword, as taught to the Highland Regiments during the Napoleonic Wars. Travel back to the 18th Century, and learn the fundamentals of Scottish swordsmanship. Sparring will be done with fencing masks, professional grade safety swords, and shields.
11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Adults: $10.75 to $12
Youth: $8.75 to $10Learn the rules and techniques of a sword duel, as practiced circa 1800. Then use your newfound skills to defend your honor (using safety equipment!)
Equipment and Safety:
All necessary equipment (swords and masks) will be provided. Wear comfortable athletic clothing. Light gloves which cover the whole hand and fingers are recommended, such as gardening gloves, or light welding gloves. Sparring will be done with fencing masks and professional grade foam and plastic safety swords.
Waiver and Liability:
Participants must be at least 13 years of age. All minors under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A separate waiver must be signed with The Sword Conservatory, Inc for each participant.
