A Place at the Table, 300 W Hargett Street, is Raleigh’s first “pay what you can” cafe. It’s a nonprofit cafe where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast or lunch, while helping to provide food for others who can’t afford it. It opened in 2018.
It truly is a place where everyone is welcome, and where everyone is treated with dignity.
A Place at the Table offers several ways to pay for your meal:
- Pay the suggested price on the menu
- Pay at least $3 for your meal
- Pay using a PLACE card
- Volunteer for your meal
- Pay it forward by paying more than the suggested price
If you contribute more than the menu price, you help A Place at the Table continue to serve food to those in the community who are facing food insecurity. At least 80% of patrons pay at least the suggested price.
If you would like to directly help people in the community, purchase a PLACE Card at the counter for $10, and then give it to someone you encounter in Raleigh who could use a meal. The meal will be free for them.
The menu includes breakfast, brunch and lunch items, like biscuit sandwiches, waffles, grits, omelets, sandwiches, pastries,. and salads. There are vegan, gluten free and vegetarian items.
The beverage menu includes various hot and cold coffee drinks and more.
The published hours are Tuesday to Sunday, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. You can purchase either breakfast or lunch during those hours.
