Jazz Listening Circle is a free event that will take place the third Saturday of the month, starting October 21, 2023, at Community Family Life & Recreation Center at Lyon Park, 1309 Halley Street, Durham, North Carolina.
Local jazz artists will talk about their pathways to the genre, and share/discuss their favorite pieces of jazz music with the audience; explain why their selections are favorites and important to them, then take questions.
The series from October 2023 to May 2024 will include renown and up and coming artists. The series is intended to reach new audiences; connect with jazz enthusiasts of all ages; educate the public about Durham’s contribution to jazz; and facilitate community in the West End.
While artists will share their favorites via CD, turntable, or computer files, some may break out in song, or play his/her/their most favorite. However, this is not a live music series.
The series is free, and will culminate with a community celebration with as many of the presenters as possible.
