Blue Star Museums is a program that provides free admission to over 2,000 museums nationwide to active duty military personnel and their families.
This year, 2019, the program starts earlier. It runs from May 18th through Labor Day, September 3rd. The military ID holder can bring five family members with him or her, and those family members can include a spouse or child, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc.
If the military member is deployed the spouse can still participate in the free program. Read the FAQ for more details, including the documentation you’ll need to bring.
In the Triangle, participating museums:
- Ackland Art Museum
- Kidzu Children’s Museum
- Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University
- Fuquay-Varina Museums
- North Carolina Museum of Art
- North Carolina Museum of History
Some of the above museums always have free admission, for everyone. But, please contact the museum in that case, because they might offer free admission to ticketed exhibits as part of this program.
Traveling this summer? Find out which museums are participating around the country.
Pease make sure to check to see if the museum is open on Memorial Day and Labor Day. Some may not be.
