Celebrate the victories for equality that women have won at We are Worthy! Women’s Equality Day March on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Participants will gather at 4:30 p.m. at the Durham County Register of Deeds Office, 200 E Main St, and will march to a rally at Durham Central Park, 501 Foster Street, where there will be speakers, performance artists, food trucks, DJs an live bands.
The theme this year is “I Am Worthy!”
“Women’s Equality Day” commemorates the certification of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in 1920, which legally assured the right to vote for all American women. However, state laws and racial intimidation at the polls–especially in the South– would continue to disenfranchise the vote of Black women until the Voting Rights Act in 1965.
