The Annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour has been transformed into a self-guided tour that you can take any day from December 12th to 27th, 2020.
You can take the tour from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. It takes one to two hours. The tour route is approximately 2.3 miles.
This is the 49th annual tour.
Take a walk through history this holiday season, as twenty-three properties in the Historic Oakwood neighborhood will be featured in a special outdoor-only walking version of the Annual Historic Oakwood Candlelight Tour.
Start at The Tucker House, 418 N Person Street, Raleigh, and be guided on a walk through the neighborhood to view historic homes decorated for the holidays.
Along the way you will stop at featured properties where you can hear a little history of the property and maybe even see an interior photo or two.
In order to go on the tour, download the Junket app. (Find all instructions for the tour here.)
Once installed, open the app and search for tours nearby (when near Oakwood) or enter the search word “Oakwood.” You may use the app to take the tour anytime and on any day between December 12th and December 27th.
If you don’t have a smartphone a PDF brochure is also available for you to print.
The tour app contains audio for walking directions and house descriptions, so please use headphones.
Please stay on public sidewalks. Don’t walk in the streets or enter the yards or porches of properties. These are private homes.
Please maintain social distancing and wear a mask.
Although the tour is free, donations to the Society for the Preservation of Historic Oakwood are appreciated. A $5 donation is suggested.
Parking is available at the State Government parking lots #14 and #35 bounded by Blount, Polk and North Streets. Overflow parking may also be available in the North Carolina Medical Society parking lot located behind Side Street Restaurant on Bloodworth Street.
Tour parking is also available along most streets of Historic Oakwood; however, please be aware on-street parking is limited and occupied by Oakwood residents, as most homes do not have driveways or garages.
