Video Vortex and Alamo Drafthouse Raleigh are celebrating International Independent Video Store Day on Saturday, October 19th, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., at 2116-D New Bern Avenue, Raleigh.
This is a free event. There will be food and drink specials.
Here’s a full look at the day’s events:
4PM – VHS SWAP AND SALE:
Buy, sell, and trade VHS tapes and movie media of all persuasions with a group of totally radical video-loving vendors! Peruse VHS tapes, relics from the age of the video store, and more!
8PM – MEMORY VIDEO SCREENING and VHS RELEASE:
There will be a special screening and limited VHS release of Roy Power’s MEMORY VIDEO: a short documentary detailing the ongoing story of an neighborhood video store right outside of Philadelphia, PA called VIVA VIDEO, which is still alive and renting – MEMORY VIDEO is a heartfelt and insightful journey through the trials of running a modern day video store, overflowing with passion and riddled with uncertainty.
The Limited Edition VHS release will be unleashed by LUNCHMEAT VHS, and will be available in limited supply!
8:30PM – REMEMBERING A TO X VIDEO W/ LISA LOFCHIE:
Go back in time with Raleigh local Lisa Lofchie as we discuss her days of running her own video store in the heyday home video, and gain insight on what it was like to own a video rental shop when physical media was absolutely paramount.
9PM – VIDEO STORE REWIND MIXTAPE:
Enjoy a hilarious and fascinating mix of video store memories, curated by our VHS Culture Captain Josh Schafer! See classic video store commercials, private home-recorded tours of rental destinations, and other radical video era sights! This mix will be an absolute avalanche of awesome 80s and 90s nostalgia!
