Indivisible – A One-Man Performance by Dr. Sonny Kelly is a FREE event on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 3 to 5 p.m., at William and Ida Friday Center, 100 Friday Center Drive, Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
This event is in honor of Black History Month and is suggested for ages 10+. It’s free, but registration is required.
In this compelling and interactive Black History Month presentation, scholar and playwright Dr. Sonny Kelly weaves together storytelling, lecture, poetry, and dramatic interpretation to confront the painful and persistent legacies that continue to shape American life.
Tracing a powerful thread from the colonial era to the present day, Dr. Kelly brings to life pivotal figures such as Crispus Attucks, Frederick Douglass, and Fred Hampton, illuminating how their struggles and leadership speak directly to the divisions we face today. With insight and urgency, he asks the central questions: How did we get where we are, and what can history teach us about where we go next?
Indivisible reveals a too-often overlooked American story – one marked not only by oppression, but by enduring hope, resilience, and the pursuit of unity. This is a story that challenges us to listen deeply, reflect honestly, and take up the baton from past leaders to help build a more just and indivisible nation.
More than a performance, Indivisible is an experience. Dr. Sonny Kelly embodies 20 distinct characters, guiding audiences through unforgettable stories that span generations. With an exceptional ability to connect, educate, and inspire, Dr. Kelly invites audiences into a safe and courageous space – one that encourages honest engagement with difficult truths, exploration of shared humanity, and the pursuit of healing and unity.
