On Thursday, February 22nd, 2018, at 6 p.m., there will be a free screening of the documentary “Straws,” as well as a reception, at Durham Arts Council, 120 Morris Street, Durham.
Space is limited. Register online.
This event is being presented by Bull City Burger and Brewery, Pompieri Pizza, Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, Keep Durham Beautiful, Don’t Waste Durham, and other environmentally conscious local businesses.
The film is about the environmental impact of plastic drinking straws, and is part of a campaign to encourage Durham businesses to stop using single-use straws.
More than 500,000,000 straws are used once and tossed every day in this country. Ocean Conservancy ranks plastic straws as the #5 most found item on beaches. The vast majority of them aren’t recycled, so they wind up in landfills, litter streets, and add to the estimated 8.5 million metric tons of plastic debris in oceans annually.
Join Bull City Burger and Brewery, Pompieri Pizza, Duke Environmental Law and Policy Clinic, Keep Durham Beautiful, Don’t Waste Durham, and other environmentally conscious local businesses on Thursday, February 22 at 6 PM for a free screening of the acclaimed documentary, STRAWS. This event will launch a month-long #SkipTheStrawDurm campaign for Durham.
6:00 PM – Reception and Cash Bar.
7:00 PM – “Don’t Litter Man” PSA w/ Pierce Freelon + STRAWS film
Followed by Panel Discussion and Kick-off to #SkiptheStrawDURM
