Arts and Crafts
Banjo Crafting
Make your own banjo! Banjos belong to a family of the earliest known instruments. Drums with strings stretched over them can be traced throughout the Far East, the Middle East and Africa almost from the beginning of human history. The modern banjo is frequently associated with country, folk, Irish/Scottish traditional, and bluegrass music.
African Mbira Instruments
Create a replica of this traditional African musical instrument which has been making music for over 1,300 years.
Dreamcatchers
Weave a dreamcatcher using textiles, beads, and feathers to honor this traditional symbol of protection and unity in Native American cultures.
Panning
NC is home to gold and gemstone mines and has a rich history of panning for these precious natural resources.
Autumn Leaf Crowns
Welcome Autumn by making your own colorful leaf crown to wear as you enjoy the festival!
Fall Fairy Houses
Decorate a tiny house that a fairy would love to call home with paint, leaves, acorns, glitter, and more!
Foxfire Lanterns
Make your own glow-in-the-dark foxfire lantern to take home! Foxfire, sometimes called fairy fire, is produced by a bioluminescent fungi. First documented in 382 BC by Aristotle, it was discovered to be the cause of eerie glows coming from mines, used to illuminate needles of instruments on an early submarine, and has sparked many stories of Appalachia.
