RECESS RALEIGH is a free summer cookout, community gathering and benefit for Helping Hand Mission, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that has supported Southeast Raleigh children, elderly, disabled and economically disadvantaged families with food, clothing, furniture and shelter since 1972.
This year’s cookout and celebration will be held at Dix Park Athletic Field on Sunday, August 13th, from 2 – 6 PM. Capital Club 16 will be serving up burgers, hot dogs, and traditional cookout sides. Local music producers and DJs, Brassiousmonk, Chocolate Rice, and Micky Slicks will be playing soulful and funky summertime beats. Mollie Earls, artist and educator of the Contemporary Art Museum of Raleigh, will lead arts and crafts through CAM Raleigh’s Art to Go Station. And out in the field, lawn games, kickball, soccer and more will be available for play.
We’re also very honored this year to be joined by our City’s Dorothea Dix Park Planning Team as they engage us in re-discovering Dix Park as it is today, while dreaming and designing around our ideas of what it could be tomorrow!
Please register or donate so we know you’re coming! See you Sunday at Dix Park Athletic Field!
Donations
Proceeds from donations will go toward Helping Hand Mission of Raleigh as it works this time of year to provide backpacks, notebooks and supplies to children in need preparing to head back to school. Donations ranging from $10 – $20 are suggested, but any amount is deeply appreciated.
