One World Market, 811 9th Street in Durham, is a nonprofit fair trade store that provides a sustainable source of fair pay, helping to ensure a living wage for thousands of people in developing areas.
The organization works with artisans who live in over 70 different developing countries, giving them access to the US market to sell their handmade crafts. All of the artisans are paid under Fair Trade standards, ensuring that they make a livable wage for their country.
On Saturday, May 12th, 2018, One World Market is celebrating World Fair Trade Day with a free event from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Here’s what’s going on:
- Fair Trade food tastings all day
- Fun in-store scavenger hunt with prizes, for kids
- Free henna tattoos by Shemora from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
- Performances by The Harambee Collective at 12:30 p.m. and 1:15 p.m.
