A time capsule from June 8th, 1967, will be unearthed on June 8th, 2017, at 10 a.m., near Bonefish Grill, 4421 Six Forks Road, Raleigh. At the same time, a new time capsule will be buried, to be opened in 50 years.
Here’s information on the time capsule and the event:
North Hills is planning to open the time capsule buried 49 years ago on June 8, 1967. The capsule is located in the Lassiter District of North Hills between what is now Verizon and Bonefish Grill.
Buried on the opening day of the Cardinal Movie Theatre, the time capsule was placed in the sidewalk outside of the old theater.
After purchasing the old North Hills Mall in 2000, Kane Realty Corporation also acquired the time capsule. Students of nearby schools and businesses contributed to the old container back in 1967, but the contents are unknown.
In conjunction with the unearthing, we will bury a new time capsule to be opening in another 50 years with contributions from:
- Aldert Root Elementary
- Brooks Elementary
- Carroll Middle
- Douglas Elementary
- Sanderson High
- St. David’s

The unearthing will take place on June 8th at 10am near Bonefish Grill. The event is free and open to the public.
