
The North Carolina Museum of Art, at 2110 Blue Ridge Road, Raleigh, NC, is hosting the NC Indigenous Artist Festival on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
This is a free event in the Museum Park.
The festival is a celebration of NC Indigenous artists, and includes demos, performances, discussion, hands-on art-making and more. Guests will also have the chance to purchase art directly from the artists.
Schedule of activities
- 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Artist vendor fair
- 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 2 p.m.: Basketmaking workshops with Cindy Locklear
- 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 2 p.m.: Collaborative clay activities inspired by Senora Lynch
- 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Educator workshop with Vibrina Coronado
- 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Nature journaling with Jesalyn Keziah
- 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:30 p.m.: Gallery tours with Teen Arts Council
- 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.: Hammered metals demonstrations with Harlen Chavis
- 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.: Lumbee youth dancers from the Pembroke Boys & Girls Club under the direction of Reggie Brewer
- 1 to 2 p.m.: Panel discussion, “Contemporary Traditionalists: Native Art 2023,” moderated by Nancy Strickland Fields with artists Senora Lynch, Nanibah Chacon, and Tom Farris
- 4 to 6 p.m.: Free concert featuring Lakota John and Layla Locklear
