National Grandparents Day is on Sunday, September 11th, 2016, and many North Carolina State Parks are hosting special activities for kids to do with their grandparents or surrogate grandparents this weekend. Browse this list to find events all over the state. Here are a two in the Triangle area. These are free events but make sure to click on the links to find out about registration.
Bring a Grandparent Turtle Hike
Eno River State Park
Saturday, September 10th, 10 a.m.
Grab your grandparent and join a naturalist for a 2-mile loop hike looking for river turtles. This program is geared toward young adventurers (and their grandparents!), but all are welcome.
Bring a hat, closed-toed shoes, and a sense of adventure! Limit 10 kids (grandparents not counted).
Grandparents Fishing Day
Sunday, September 11th, 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area
Calling all Grandparents! Come out to Jordan Lake to celebrate Grandparents day with a Ranger. If you like fishing, then this event is for you. Bring the grandchildren, ages 5 and above. Participants will learn basic fishing skills such as, how bait a hook, what fish are found in Jordan Lake and if willing are encouraged to unhook the fish! No worries about casting. You will learn how to use a bobber and will sink the line straight off the dock. Group size is limited and reservations are required. Dress according to the weather and if needed bring water, sunscreen, hat and/or sunglasses. Fishing pole, bait and PFD (for youth only) will be provided.
