McDonald’s: get free MacCoin to keep or for a free Big Mac

The Big Mac is turning 50. To celebrate McDonald’s is giving out free MacCoins. You can keep it, as a souvenir, or redeem it for a free Big Mac.

Here’s how it works.

Starting on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018, at 10:30 a.m., get a free MacCoin with the purchase of a Big Mac at participating locations, while supplies last.

All traditional McDonald’s restaurants will have 250 MacCoins to give out, and restaurants in Walmart locations or gas stations will have 50.

Then, starting Friday, August 3rd, until the end of the year, you can redeem the MacCoin for a free Big Mac at participating locations.

The MacCoin will feature five different designs, each representing a decade of the Big Mac:

• The ‘70s coin showcasing the decade’s flower power.
• The ‘80s coin alluding to pop art.
• The ‘90s coin defined by bold, abstract shapes.
• The early ‘00s coin specifically focusing on the technology that was at the forefront of the turn of the century.
• The ‘10s coin calling attention to the evolution of communication.
