UPDATE: The Lightup Festival has been canceled.
Here’s the statement from the organizer:
The 2020 LightUp Festival is postponed. The event, celebrating the Chinese Lunar New Year, was scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, at the 140 West Plaza in downtown Chapel Hill.
Due to the recent outbreak of the novel coronavirus and the peak holiday travel season, the LightUp team made the decision to postpone the event out of abundance of caution. Please check the CDC website for the most recent update and guidance.
The Chinese New Year Celebration in Raleigh has also been canceled.
The Chinese School at Chapel Hill is presenting Lightup Festival on Sunday, February 2nd, 2020, from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., at 140 W. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
Celebrate the Year of the Rat at this free event.
The Lightup Festival is hosted and organized by the Town of Chapel Hill and the Chinese American Friendship Association.
The festival features:
- Asian foods
- Dragon dance
- Lion dance
- Arts and crafts
- Chinese painting
- Folk dance
- Children’s performances
- Twilight Lantern Parade
