Families are invited to a special event on Monday, October 30th, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a free event.
Kids will design their own downtown at this event, which takes place at 140 West Plaza, at 140 West Franklin Street, Chapel Hill.
Here’s the information, from the Town of Chapel Hill:
A special town planning activity for families will take place outdoors at the plaza at 140 W. Franklin Street from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 30.
Hosted by the Town of Chapel Hill Planning Department, the Downtown Partnership, the Chapel Hill Library, and the Chapel Hill Manager’s Office, the event will include a special visit from the Library’s new Circulator – a souped-up bookmobile, complete with pop-up patio and furniture.
During the activity, kids will learn about the history of downtown Chapel Hill and then have a chance to work in small groups to plan their own city block. Each group will then present its favorite features. The ideas will be considered for use in future downtown planning projects. Each child will also receive a Chapel Hill map to take home and share with their families to continue learning about the town and helping to plan for its future.
The activity builds on the Planning Department’s successful Planning-in the-Classroom event held last year, and is particularly fun for kids ages 8-12.
