Triangle Friends of African American Arts is presenting a free program for children who are interested in dance.
This is Ballet! Becoming a Professional Dancer will take place at Hayti Heritage Center, 804 Fayetteville Street, Durham, on Sunday, August 27th, at 3 p.m.
Registration is required.
Meet Carmen Felder, a ballerina from the Carolina Ballet, and gain insights from parents whose daughters joined the Martha Graham and Atlanta Ballet Dance Companies. Information will be provided about how children can audition for the Carolina Ballet’s Nutcracker.
The program will also include a short workshop for future dancers. Both boys and girls are welcome.
Carmen began her ballet training in Cary, NC at Cary Ballet Conservatory through high school. She spent summers training as a scholarship student at Houston Ballet Academy, Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Dance Theatre of Harlem. Ms. Felder went on to earn her BFA from the University of Oklahoma in Ballet Performance with a minor in German. After graduation Carmen danced with Columbia City Ballet in Columbia, SC. Carmen joined Carolina Ballet in January 2011.
