Schoolkids Records, 2237 Avent Ferry Rd., Suite 101, Raleigh, hosts frequent performances by touring bands. They’re free to attend but you’re encouraged to tip the bands, buy a beer, and buy records. Come celebrate the release of post-punk soul funkateers ALGIERS new LP! “There Is No Year” comes out Jan 17 on Matador records. Buy a copy and the band will autograph it! The band embarks heads to Europe in a couple weeks and they want to thank their fans for their constant support! Do not miss your chance to see one of America’s best live band in an intimate setting! This is a limited-capacity show, so get here early and be ready to have a great time with Algiers.

Experimental pop musician KAI ORION hits the Schoolkids stage January 24, 2020. KAI ORION’s career began in 2014, when he won a cover contest held by indie-rock band The National for his cover of their song “I Need My Girl,” using household objects as instruments. Since then, he’s earned a reputation for blending experimental sounds with heartfelt songwriting, drawing comparisons to the likes of Peter Gabriel and Tom Waits. This culminated in May 2019, when Orion was one of 20 musicians selected to participate in a four-day recording session at Peter Gabriel’s own Real World Studios in Bath, England. His song “Raining In My Head” was subsequently released through the Real World label. Kai’s second album, “Start to End,” was released in April 2019, and features some of his most compelling work yet.
